The first Sunday he was at Al Udeid Air Base, LtCol Dave Huxsoll came to my chapel service. Before worship began LtCol Huxsoll asked if I was taking Prayer requests. I told him I was and Dave asked that we include his daughter in our prayers- she was being confirmed that Sunday and he could not be there. I immediately told him we would pray for her and I told myself, "This is a good man. Get him involved in the Chapel."
LtCol Huxsoll was not only a fellow Missouri Synod Lutheran, he is a devout Christian and a blessing from God. Dave helped me establish the first Protestant Liturgical worship service on the base; he helped in the distribution of 3,000 hardbound copies of Luther's Small Catechism to the troops and he helped us place over 800 copies of the Lutheran Service Book in several of our chapels in the region. Just this past Sunday I was at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Jersey; in their hallway they had a section devoted to my ministry on deployment; included were two "thank you" cards from the troops in appreciation for this congregations care packages and Catechisms. LtCol Huxsoll personally helped me send out hundreds of these thank you notes to congregations across the land.
By God's grace we had 31 attend the Prayer Workshop at St Paul Lutheran Church in Montgomery, AL. Our workshop went from 9am to 3:30pm. We had four training sessions and one session devoted to explaining the electronic resources we have available for ministry. After we concluded, everyone was encouraged to fill out an evaluation form and we received 30 back.
It was very nice to meet Dave's wife, two children and their dog- Henry. It was also very nice to meet both of his Pastors, the congregation and preach for them. God blessed me in so many ways on this deployment and LtCol Dave Huxsoll was definitely one of His blessings. We praise God from Whom all blessings flow.
