Paul's prayer was that those who were yet believe in Christ would be saved. He prayed for things that mattered eternally, not just for the temporal things. He had a burden in his heart for the salvation of those who didn't believe, and the security of those who did.
I admit that my prayers have often not included the salvation of those who don't know Jesus. I pray that we could impact their lives and passionately pray for their eternal salvation.
My prayer, God, put in me a renewed desire to see people come to faith throughout our city, and be strengthened in their faith. Let me pray for the things that you deeply care about, not just the things that concern my human nature. Holy Spirit, teach me what I should pray for. Teach me to know your mind and desires better so that I can pattern my prayers after you.
