Celebrating Mission Sundays with partner congregations is always special and it was definitely so on January 11th when my family and I were blessed to worship with Pr. Deric Taylor and his flock at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fair Lawn, NJ.
Pr. Taylor and the members were faithful to me during my recent deployment to the Middle East. This congregation sent so many care packages that I hardly know where to begin. It was my pleasure and privilege to present Pr. Taylor and his congregation with Certificates of Appreciation on behalf of the deployed troops, their loved ones and my deployed chain of command.
During Bible study I went through about 30 pictures from the deployment and also about 20 slides updating them on our ministry partnership here in the States. After service, we went to a member's home and about 30 of us had a fantastic time of joyful fellowship (you will always have a joyful time with Pr. Taylor).
On a typical Mission Sunday, I will preach the assigned Gospel reading unless the host Pastor requests that I preach a certain text that he feels best fits with their sermon theme at the time. If there is an opportunity to give a Mission and Ministry presentation during Bible class, this is always welcomed. Whenever possible, my family will come with me. If you would like to schedule a Mission Sunday, let's look at dates 4 months out if possible.
